An English proverb says: “A calm sea doesn’t make good sailors”. This is one of the reasons that made me come to Berlin.
Obviously, it’s not that Berlin was for me “a bad sea”; I am passionate about history, coming to Berlin was a real luxury and luck for me. On top of that I had to come to work in what I like the most. But coming here made me get out of my comfort zone.
I confess that the days before coming to Berlin were not easy, I’m a person who thinks a lot about his worries: “Will I do my job well?”,”Will I be able to communicate well in English?”, “Will I feel lonely?”… These were just some of the questions that came to my mind.
The long-awaited arrival
But when I arrived, all those doubts disappeared. I met amazing people from all over the world, I had the opportunity to learn from real professionals (thank you Pablo), I had the opportunity to see accelerators that I could not have imagined even in my dreams, I have explored an amazing city that I hope to return to many times…
Also I have noticed that living alone has its advantages, if I only cook for myself I don’t have to argue with anyone else about what to have for dinner! Now seriously, living alone I think has helped me to know myself better and also to value those I have left at home..
If I had to take the decision to come again, I would choose to leara lot of new things about Radiofrequency cavities, I would choose to watch the Eurocup with the friends of the programme, I would choose to walk around the Soviet monuments in Treptower Park, I would choose to go swimming to the Großer Müggelsee lake on a nice weather day…
